Espresso

The Essentials

Get ready to craft a kick-ass espresso!
Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Fresh coffee beans (of course Hoasties Coffee lol)

  • Fresh water (for that perfect brew)

  • Espresso machine (your trusty brewing companion)

  • Coffee grinder (for that fine grind)

  • Portafilter (the holder for your ground beans)

  • Tamper (to compress those grounds)

The Perfect Measurements

For a delicious shot of espresso, use 18–21 grams of coffee for each shot.
Adjust according to your taste and the strength you prefer!

Brewing Steps to Espresso Perfection

  1. Turn the Machine On
Get your espresso machine warmed up and ready to go!

  2. Purge the Machine
Run a shot of water through the machine and portafilter to rinse and purge it.
This ensures everything is clean and hot.
Wipe the portafilter with a dry cloth afterward.

  3. Add Fresh Beans
Pour your favorite Hoasties coffee beans into the grinder.
Choose a blend that excites your taste buds!

  4. Grind Into the Portafilter
Grind the beans directly into the portafilter.
Aim for a fine grind—like table salt—for optimal extraction.

  5. Level and Smooth the Grounds
After grinding, level and smooth out the coffee grounds in the portafilter for even extraction.

  6. Tamp the Grounds
Use your tamper to press down firmly and evenly on the grounds.
Apply about 30 pounds of pressure for a consistent tamp.

  7. Polish with a Twist
At the end of the tamping process, give the tamper a gentle 3/4 twist to polish the surface of the grounds.

  8. Lock It In
Securely lock the loaded portafilter onto the espresso machine.

  9. Prepare to Pull a Shot
Place your espresso cup under the portafilter, ready to catch that liquid gold!

  10. Go Time! Pull the Shot
    Start the extraction process!
A perfectly pulled shot should take about 20 seconds, producing a rich stream of espresso with a beautiful crema on top.

  11. Serve & Savor
Once extracted, serve your espresso immediately.
Take a moment to enjoy its aroma before indulging in that first sip!

  12. Repeat & Share!
Enjoy every drop and share your espresso creations with friends or family.
Coffee is best when enjoyed together!

Tips for Success

  • Grind Fresh: Always use freshly ground beans for maximum flavor.

  • Fine Grind: A fine grind is crucial; too coarse will result in weak espresso, while too fine can lead to bitterness.

  • Consistent Extraction: Aim for about 2 ounces of espresso in total, including crema, for each shot.

Espresso vs. Coffee
