French Press:

The Essentials

Prepare to brew some delightful French press coffee!
Here’s what you’ll need:

  • French press (your trusty brewing companion)

  • Fresh coffee beans (of course Hoasties Coffee lol)

  • Coffee grinder (for that fresh grind)

  • Fresh water (the cleaner, the better!)

  • Kettle (to heat things up)

The Perfect Measurements

For a delicious cup of coffee, we recommend using 2 tablespoons of coffee for every 6 ounces of water.

Adjust to your taste if you’re feeling adventurous!

Brewing Steps to Coffee Perfection

  1. Boil That Water!
Start by boiling fresh, cold water. Once it reaches a rolling boil, let it rest for about 30 seconds to cool slightly.

  2. Grind Those Beans
Grind your fresh coffee beans to a coarse consistency—think breadcrumbs or coarse sea salt. This helps avoid bitterness in your brew.

  3. Add Grounds to the French Press
Drop the freshly ground coffee into the bottom of your French press.
For a standard 8-cup press, aim for about 56 grams (or roughly 8 tablespoons) of coffee.

  4. Pour in the Water
Fill the French press with hot water, saturating all the grounds evenly.
If you’re making one cup (6 ounces), that’s just 2 tablespoons of coffee and 6 ounces of water!

  5. Watch the Coffee Bloom
    Let your coffee bloom!
This magical moment occurs when CO₂ is released from the coffee grounds, creating a beautiful frothy layer on top.

  6. Let It Brew
Cover your French press with the lid (but don’t plunge just yet) and let it steep for about 4 minutes.
Use this time wisely—maybe read a book or do some stretches!

  7. Plunge Gently
After 4 minutes, it’s time to plunge!
Push down the plunger slowly and steadily to separate the grounds from your delicious brew.

  8. Serve & Savor
Pour your freshly brewed coffee into your favorite mug or carafe immediately to avoid over-extraction, which can lead to bitterness.

  9. Repeat & Share!
Enjoy every sip and share the joy with friends or family.
    Coffee is best when shared!

Tips for Success

  • Grind Fresh: Always grind your beans just before brewing for maximum flavor.

  • Coarse Grind: A coarser grind is essential for French press—too fine will lead to bitterness.

  • Don’t Over-Brew: Serve immediately after brewing; letting coffee sit in the press will make it taste bitter.
